Why Join The League?

The League is not designed to be all things to all people.  However, as one of the nation’s most important state trade associations for thrifts and community banks, we focus on the specific needs of our niche.  To our industry we advocate, educate, communicate, and innovate.


Since its formation in 1880, The League has been the industry’s primary advocate in the often contentious, always important legislative, regulatory, and public opinion arenas in our region and at the national level. 

The League participates in all phases of the legislative process by drafting and amending bills and testifying regularly before legislative and regulatory committees.  As advocacy is such a large part of what we do, we invite you to read more on The League’s Advocacy page.


The League offers a full slate of programs on banking and professional development for thrifts and community banks.  We draw subject matter experts from across the country to deliver timely, impactful information that delivers improvements to our participants.  Our programs offer veteran and new bankers a unique opportunity to broaden their professional skills and contacts.  To see a sample of our offerings, please visit our Events & Education page.

Our Annual Convention is designed for the C-Suite and Director level and features thought leaders in the industry, vendor and public sector space—delivering practical solutions to industry challenges.  The networking opportunities to all attendees are second to none.

Through The League Members Assistance Corporation, the League has focused on delivering new and innovative products and services from Preferrerd Partners that helps its members thrive.  For example, The League created the ILFI Trust, which exists solely to provide League members with a reliable source of competitively priced, quality group insurance products.  This means:

  • Plan flexibility 
  • Individualized attention 
  • Quality and timely claims administration 
  • COBRA and HIPPA administration for participating member institutions
  • Coverage is available to employees, their families, retirees and Directors.

Membership Descriptions & Benefits

Regular Full, Voting Membership

  • Available to FDIC insured financial institutions.
  • Able to vote in election of Board of Directors.
  • Contact The League for more details regarding annual dues. 

Institutional, Non-Voting Membership

  • Members are FDIC-insured financial institutions seeking access to group insurance benefits from the League’s ERISA Trust and must also be a member of a statewide financial institution trade association other than The League that has participation of benefits agreement with The League.

Allied, Non-Voting Membership

  • Membership designed for mortgage banking companies and councils, corporations, leagues, and similar organizations whose main purposes are to serve the financial institution business on a local or regional basis.
  • Contact The League for more details regarding annual dues. 

Affiliate, Non-Voting Membership

  • Ideal for individuals, firms, or product vendors whose businesses provide products or services to financial institutions.
  • Firm/company will be listed in The League’s annual membership directory.
  • Firm/company listed in The League’s Illinois Reporter quarterly magazine and yearly subscription to Illinois Reporter.
  • Discounted member registration rates for the annual convention and seminars.
  • Priority over non-members in sponsoring events at The League meetings.
  • Annual dues are $1750 per company, and $1000 per individual.  Statements are mailed to the member each October.  Contact The League for more details regarding annual dues. 

Associate, Non-Voting Membership

  • Service corporations wholly-owned by one or more regular members
  • Contact The League for more details regarding annual dues.
